Origin - Where The Question Started
The story begins during the refinance boom of the early 2000s, with a simple curiosity that never really went away: why is a home in one neighborhood worth more than an almost-identical home a few streets over? What changes the number — the region, the town, the block, the finish?
That question came naturally. Growing up in the Midwest as the son of an architect who designed and hand-built the family home, real estate wasn't an abstraction — it was something built board by board, decision by decision. After earning a business degree in marketing from Palm Beach Atlantic University, that early fascination turned into a career.
"What made a home more or less valuable?"
His first territory? The whole state of Maine!. Within a year, the first company was born — on a simple foundation of integrity and customer service — and grew to also cover New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Florida.
Keeping that same foundation that started in June 2003, The Island Appraiser LLC was founded. to serve Southern Florida. Through over two decades of growth covering major shifts in the real estate world — including the trial of the 2007–2008 financial crisis — there was a clear conclusion: the appraisal industry didn't just need more appraisers, it needed better-trained ones. So a three-year training module was built for incoming appraisers, teaching the process correctly while letting them earn a living on the way to full certification. It's a program that still sets the firm apart today.

Built to Train, Not Just to Produce
After the 2007–2008 financial crisis, it became clear the appraisal industry needed more than survivors — it needed better-trained professionals. So The Island Appraiser built a three-year training module that lets incoming appraisers learn the process correctly while earning a living on the road to full certification.
That structure is what still sets the firm apart: teams built around this training pipeline can service the full lifecycle of every appraisal product, which is how the firm leads on turn time without cutting corners on integrity. Efficient — but never at the expense of the product.

Scott founded The Island Appraiser LLC alongside The Appraiser Guy Inc., and has since founded multiple real estate development companies. His work in real estate isn't limited to the report — for more than 24 years he has been an owner/builder on his own properties, developing hands-on experience from the ground up.
Over 24 years in the field, Scott has appraised property in every condition and every bracket, from hoarding situations to extreme high-value estates. That range is the foundation of the firm's judgment: valuation informed by having actually stood inside the full spectrum of what a home can be.
